Next-Level your Speedwing piloting!
This course is intended for pilots with intermediate to advanced Speedflying skills/experience, who want to begin safely learning next-level piloting techniques to expand their flying capacity.
Details
In this course we will be discussing Speed Soaring, Rear-Riser and B/C-connection piloting, Barrel Rolls and Spiral dives, sustainable Proximity Flying techniques, Toss-launches, advanced input combinations, utilizing recovery arc, and a host of other high-level topics. Should conditions permit, we may also work on high-wind traction kiting techniques.
This course will present immersive training in both the physical and theoretical components of advanced piloting, so you will want to bring a notebook, and a list of topics of questions that you would like to make sure we cover!
We anticipate utilizing several nearby drive-up sites to Salt Lake City, depending on conditions – as well as some training time at the Point of the Mountain. This world-renowned training location offers some of the most consistent wind-conditions in the country, ensuring that we can maximize our time under the canopy mastering the nuances of wing-control.
Schedule
Our training focus, locations, and timing will be informed by local wind conditions and weather forecasting. Mornings and evenings are generally the best time of day for hands-on intensive Speedwing practice. We hope to be doing both shuttled "laps" during your training progression, as well as (potentially) larger hike-and-fly missions.
Primary instructor-led training will take place during 4-hour blocks in the mornings and/or the evenings, and students will be requested to practice and master assigned skills during the alternate segments of the day.
A critical component of high-level Speedflying, is learning to accurately forecast local conditions as they relate to Speedflying specifically. Your instructor will be guiding you through this evaluating and decision-making process each day. It is very rare for us to encounter weather conditions we are unable to train in, however, we will remain flexible on location, and time of day in order to maximize your time spent!
If you don’t already have one, your training will culminate in the appropriate “S”-rating for your skill level, under USHPA’s recently approved Speedfly ratings system!
Working within a small group size (5 person max) assures you will receive tons of personalized training attention, while also allowing you to incorporate the experiences of one-another into the training progression. It will also allow you to form friendships, and meet future flying partners as you progress together through the training!

Gear
Although we will have a variety of different Wings to utilize during your training process, you *will* want to have purchased/obtained a Speedwing prior to beginning your training! Because Speedwings and harnesses typically have manufacturing times of 2+months, it is important to make purchasing decisions now, so that you have a wing to continue practicing on after you complete the course.
Which speedwing you select will vary *greatly* depending on your body-weight, and numerous other factors. We are happy to provide you with clear, unbiased purchasing advice (whether through us, or a 3rd party) on our initial onboarding phone-call.
Entry-level Speedwings cost between $2350-2500 – however, importantly, they maintain their resale value very well when treated with care and respect.
Harnesses range in price from $400-$1100
