The best course for beginning pilots, hands down.

Appropriate for beginning pilots with no prior canopy experience, as well as those with prior Skydiving backgrounds – this course is an immersive training in both the physical and theoretical components of Speedflying.

Details

Unlike other schools, we do NOT believe you need to learn to Paraglide before you begin learning to Speedfly. However, your training will begin on larger canopies, with a gradual progression towards smaller, faster wings as your skills progress. Quick-learners are never held back in our courses - your rate of advancement will entirely depend upon the speed with which you incorporate and master the requisite competencies.

Our training focus, locations, and timing will be informed by local wind conditions and weather forecasting.  Mornings are generally the best time of day for hands-on intensive practice kiting, launching, and landing your Speedwing.  We will begin our training progression at the Point of the Mountain flight park, and then transition to other local flying sites as your skill-set permits. Anticipate doing some hike-and-fly’s, as well as getting shuttled "laps" during your training progression!

A critical component of your training will be learning to accurately forecast local conditions as they relate to Speedflying specifically, and your instructor will be guiding you through this evaluating and decision-making process each day.  It is very rare for us to encounter weather conditions we are unable to train in, however, we will remain flexible on location, and time of day in order to maximize your time spent!

Schedule

Training will begin on the MORNING of the first date of camp, so you will want to arrive the day *beforehand*, and get a good night's sleep etc!

Most days will consist of approx 1/3 of your time in the "classroom" - learning about the fundamentals of flight, aerodynamics, and accurate wind/weather forecasting.

The other 2/3's of your training typically takes place at either the Point of the Mountain flight park, or on local grassy hillsides, mastering control of your canopy, and developing a relationship with both your harness and your wing as you gradually begin to take flight!

Primary instructor-led training will generally take place during 4-hour blocks in the mornings and/or the evenings, and students will be requested to practice and master assigned skills during the alternate segments of the day.

Your training will culminate in an “S2” rating evaluation and test, granting you our formal stamp of approval as a qualified solo Speedflying pilot!

Working within a small group size (5 person max) assures you will receive tons of personalized training attention, while also allowing you to incorporate the experiences of one-another into the training progression. It will also allow you to form friendships, and meet future flying partners as you progress together through the training!

Inevitably, you should anticipate 1-2 days of inclement weather, or “rest days” during your training. That said, even when wind conditions aren’t perfect, there is almost always something we can be working on to further your progression.

Gear

Although we will have a variety of different Wings to utilize during your training process, you *will* want to have purchased/obtained a Speedwing prior to beginning your training!  Because Speedwings and harnesses typically have manufacturing times of 2+months, it is important to make purchasing decisions now, so that you have a wing to continue practicing on after you complete the course.

Which speedwing you select will vary *greatly* depending on your body-weight, and numerous other factors.  We are happy to provide you with clear, unbiased purchasing advice (whether through us, or a 3rd party) on our initial onboarding phone-call.

Entry-level Speedwings cost between $2350-2500 – however, importantly, they maintain their resale value very well when treated with care and respect.

Harnesses range in price from $400-$1100
